About The Mint Hill Weather Station

This weather station is privately owned and operated in Mint Hill, North Carolina at a distance of 3.6 miles East from the square of Mint Hill and 14.5 miles East-Southeast of the center of Charlotte.

The station’s data are collected by a Davis Vantage Pro2 Professional Weather Station with a 24-hour fan-aspirated radiation shield. This shield combines fan aspiration and passive shielding to minimize the effects of solar radiation on temperature readings. In addition to the temperature sensor this station has an anemometer, automatic rain gauge, humidity sensor, barometer, and solar/UV sensors. The sensors for this station are situated as optimally as possible for the highest accuracy with the temperature-humidity sensor 5 feet above the ground and the anemometer approximately 34 feet above the ground in a relatively clear area.

Data from this station are transmitted wirelessly to a dedicated weather computer every 3 seconds. This computer then uploads that data to MintHillWeather.com with the current conditions updating every 10 seconds. Data quality is constantly monitored via the Citizen Weather Observer Program (CWOP). Our Live Sky Camera is co-located with the weather station and updates every minute. The solar-powered weather station is fully automated and operates 24 hours a day every day.

Chris Mullis, Ph.D. is the founder and operator of this station and MintHillWeather.com.
